For Cambria Winemaker Jill Russell, wine was always part of the plan. After earning a degree in Wine and Viticulture at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, Calif., Russell worked stints in Adelaide, Australia, Tolosa Winery and Stephen Ross Wine Cellars in California’s Edna Valley and in Menetou-Salon in France’s Loire Valley.
Once back in California, she joined Paul Lato at his boutique Santa Barbara winery, where she continued to build her Pinot Noir and Chardonnay winemaking skills. The move to Cambria as Head Winemaker in 2018 was a natural progression. Today, she oversees the winery’s extensive Burgundian-variety program from vine to bottle.
