Bodegas Emilio Moro Ribera del Duero Clon de la Familia 2016
$400
Rich and expressive, with flamboyant aromas of coffee liqueur and toast on the nose, which are immediately more subtle on the palate and serve as quiet accents for the flavors of baked blackberry, dark chocolate-covered cherry, cedar and dried lavender. A dense, full-bodied red, dark and brooding, with muscular, well-integrated tannins, orange peel acidity and a velvety texture. This has a pronounced streak of iron-laced minerality, which gains momentum through the midpalate and drives the finish. Drink now through 2031. 110 cases made, 10 cases imported.

Tempranillo
Tempranillo traces its origins to the Iberian Peninsula. It's still most associated with Spain, notably the Rioja and Ribera del Duero regions. It is also widely grown in Portugal, where it's known as Tinta Roriz. There are some notable plantings in Argentina, too.
