California Press Publishes Wine Grape Posters

Ever wondered how winemakers tell all those different grape varieties apart in the vineyards? Now you can learn. Celestial Arts has published two posters, one of red wine grapes and one of white wine grapes, that will teach wine connoisseurs a little bit more about their favorite varieties.

Lush color photos of the major varieties (and a few lesser-known grapes) depict distinguishing characteristics, from the shapes of the leaves to the grape sizes, colors and bunch patterns. Accompanying text, written by master sommelier Joseph Spellman, details the characteristics of the wines produced from the different grapes, where each of the varieties is primarily grown and how they fare in different vineyard sites and under varying weather conditions.

The 24-by-36-inch posters were created by Seeds of Change, an organic gardening and food company based in Santa Fe, N.M.

The wine grape posters sell for $15 each. To order, call Celestial Arts (a sister company of Ten Speed Press)\ in Berkeley, Calif., at (800) 841-BOOK or (510) 559-1600, fax (510) 559-1629 or order online at www.tenspeed.com.
