Mafalda Guedes

Since her early childhood, Mafalda Guedes knew that one day she would work at Sogrape. The leading Portuguese family-owned wine company, with a strong international presence and about 1,600 hectares of vineyards in Portugal, Spain, Chile, Argentina and New Zealand, was founded by her great-grandfather, Fernando Van Zeller Guedes, a visionary man who created one of the first international rosés back in 1942: Mateus.

Mafalda has fond memories of those summer holidays when she joined her father in his office, listing wines’ names and labeling bottles by hand. Such amusing times for her! She graduated in Business and Management and post-graduated in Oenology. Mafalda was the first member of the fourth generation of the Guedes family to join the company, in 2010, after some years gathering international experience in consultancy.

Today, Mafalda is Sogrape’s Corporate Brand Manager and supports her uncle Fernando, who is now at the helm. She’s directly responsible for the Group’s Global Sustainability Approach, which is inspired by the company’s purpose of bringing friendship and happiness to everyone it touches through its wonderful wines. This challenging role, recently embraced, sets long-term goals towards Sogrape’s 100th anniversary in 2042 by reshaping and growing the business whilst being a catalyst for positive societal change and respecting the limits of the planet. This means to develop a more sustainable and inclusive future in a way that preserves, respects and protects the places and communities where Sogrape is present.
