All Barrels Are Not Created Equal
For winemakers, oak barrels can have widely varying impacts on the structure and flavor of red wines, depending on many different factors. The source of the wood, its seasoning, the toasting of the barrel and the barrels' size all affect the style of a wine and the way it will age. In Tuscany, Wine Spectator's Bruce Sanderson experienced oak's effects in progress.
