In 1985, restaurateur Michael McCarty and wife Kim planted a vineyard on an acre of their Malibu property after receiving various notices from their local fire department to clear obnoxious weeds. Eight years later, a wildfire destroyed their house but left the vineyard untouched. This time, they rebuilt the house adding 2,000 extra square feet and added a second acre of plantings. Wine Spectator's Hilary Sims explains.
