Alyris Strikes Gold in Napa

Canadian gold miner Ewan Downie and his wife, Cyndi, staked their claim in the hills east of Napa when they launched Alyris in 2014, naming the winery after their two daughters. They are currently converting the 6.5-acre estate vineyard to biodynamic and organic farming, but in the interim they've hit pay dirt with their inaugural Chardonnay. Wine Spectator's Augustus Weed explains.
