Ask Dr. Vinny

Do you have a question for Dr. Vinny? Ask it here...

I’ve already shared what the most-viewed questions from 2015 were, but here are my favorites that have been asked and answered this year.

Some of these were just downright fun to answer—pairing wine with Doritos and bacon. For others, I learned something new while researching the answers—charred vs. toasted barrels; arsenic in wine. And some questions surprised me—after all these years, you still keep me on my toes.

What wines go with bacon?

Does marketing play a role in the alcohol percentage displayed on a wine label?

Does all wine contain arsenic?

Could my cavities cause a false Breathalyzer reading?

Why do some wineries and retailers ship their wines in Styrofoam?

Can the "acid" in wine make you hallucinate?

What's the difference between a toasted barrel and a charred barrel?

Can you extract alcohol by freezing red wine?

How can I get my guests to stop putting ice in their wine?

Should I offer advice to a restaurant owner whose wine list is priced exorbitantly?

Will a bottle of sparkling wine left out in the heat explode if I put it in the fridge?

What wines would you pair with the various flavors of Doritos?

Are there special shoes or foot coverings used for grape stomping? Or what is used to sanitize bare feet?

At a restaurant, when tasting a wine, if it's not flawed but I don't like it, can I ask for something else?

Am I required to use a paper bag when leaving a liquor store?

How is the "Mollydooker shake" different from what causes "bottle shock"?
