Dear Dr. Vinny,

How do you pronounce Pinot Meunier?

—Dean C., Morristown, N.J.

Dear Dean,

Oh, Pinot Meunier, the oft-forgotten grape that, along with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, is one of the three main grapes used in Champagne production.

I pronounce it Pee-no Moon-yay. Sometimes there’s a little growl that accompanies the pronunciation of French words, and it can sound a little more like “mean yay” in the right accent.
