Nothing in Paul Hobbs' hard-strapped childhood suggested that he would grow up to become one of California's top winemakers and a consultant of international renown. And yet it informs much about the man and the winemaker. He's maintained his father's iron-willed discipline, and wanderlust has taken him to remote winemaking outposts in the New World and the Old. Wine Spectator's Tim Fish explains.
