COMING TO DALLAS: CIRCO

From the Maccioni Restaurant Group of Restaurant Award winners Le Cirque and Osteria Del Circo in New York, Le Cirque Las Vegas and Le Cirque Signature in Mumbai, a new Circo will come to Dallas, Texas, in February 2017. To be located in the first two stories of the One Uptown Building at 2619 McKinney Ave., the resort-style restaurant will serve Tuscan cuisine in a setting that includes a nightclub space and a lounge with a glass-bottom pool, retractable glass roof, wraparound deck, spa treatments and changing rooms. The Maccioni group promises an extensive wine program, similar to the one at Circo in New York, with global selections—plus a private bartender in the ladies' room to greet guests with a glass of Champagne before a dip in the pool. If the group’s other award-winning lists are any indication of what’s to come, the new Circo’s list will have strengths in Italy and California.

NOW CLOSED: PIGALLE IN NEW YORK

An Award of Excellence winner since 2003, Pigalle in Midtown Manhattan has now closed. With a French bistro–style menu from executive chef Geoffrey Bruijneel and a wine list from Aviram Turgeman, the restaurant was a staple of the Theater District for over a decade. Owner Simon Oren still holds 10 Restaurant Award winners around the island, including Grand Award winner Nice Matin.

CUT BEVERLY HILLS HIRES NEW WINE DIRECTOR

As CUT by Wolfgang Puck at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons Hotel celebrates its 10th anniversary, Terence Leavey takes over as the steak house's beverage director, the position formerly held by Jaimee Anderson, who moved to Paris to become head sommelier at Epicure, which earned its first Grand Award this year. Previously a sommelier at Puck's Grand Award winner, Spago Beverly Hills, Leavey now oversees Cut's Best of Award of Excellence–winning 575-selection list, with strengths in California, Bordeaux and Burgundy.

FARM AT THE CARNEROS INN BRINGS ON NEW WINE DIRECTOR

In Napa Valley, Best of Award of Excellence winner Farm at the Carneros Inn has a new wine director. Taking over from Brian Penly, Zion Curiel now manages the 490-selection list focused on California bottles. With recent experiences as general manager at Coi in San Francisco and captain and wine steward at the Restaurant at Meadowood, Curiel is no stranger to Restaurant Award–winning lists.

NOW CLOSED: ALABAMA’S MAESTRO 2300

At the end of June, Maestro 2300 in Auburn, Ala., closed its doors. With a contemporary American menu from chef Scotty Turner and a wine program led by Clayton Cawthorne, the restaurant had earned an Award of Excellence each year since 2011 for its moderately priced list of 295 selections.
