While the COVID-19 crisis has caused dining-room closures around the world, many restaurants are finding creative ways to continue serving their communities. Our latest Restaurant Spotlights highlight these efforts at Wine Spectator Restaurant Award winners.
With pizzas baked in a brick oven and generations-old family recipes, Compari's on the Park brings classic Italian cooking to Plymouth, Mich. It’s one of three adjacent Award of Excellence winners owned by the Yaquinto family, and the only one offering pickup and delivery programs while all three dining rooms are closed. Chef Jeff Scharf’s menu has been refocused to select dishes, with a range of pizzas, pastas and sandwiches made with house-baked bread. New pickup packages include multicourse meals for a minimum of four people such as a traditional Easter dinner, and a “take-n-bake pizza kit” for home cooking, pan included. For pickup orders, customers can choose from the full list of 90 wine selections, emphasizing California and Italy, and highlighting some local picks too. Wine director Sandy Kay oversees the program at Compari’s as well as its sister restaurants, Fiamma Grille and the Sardine Room. Gift cards and branded apparel are also for sale.
