On Monday, June 19, two of the biggest names in Spanish cooking will put the spotlight on their home country for "A Taste of Spain," the exclusively Spanish wine-and-food event hosted by Vinexpo and Wine Spectator. José Andrés, a champion of Spanish food in the U.S., and Ferran Adrià, the world-renowned chef of El Bulli fame, worked together as culinary co-chairs to choose 12 chefs—each representing a different Spanish wine region—to prepare new dishes to accompany some of Spain's most exciting and sought-after wines.

"We are proud to be able to highlight young, innovative and talented chefs to showcase the wide diversity of Spanish cuisine today," Andrés told Wine Spectator. "These chefs … represent the future of our national culinary heritage, calling upon our country’s rich history and traditions while introducing modern ways of looking at food."

The lineup of chefs includes Ignacio Echapresto, Diego Gallegos, Andreu Genestra, Pablo Loureiro, Miguel Angel Mayor, Aurelio Morales, Marcos Morán, Javier Olleros, Juan Carlos Padrón, Albert Raurich, Rubén Sánchez Camacho and Ignacio Solana Pérez. With these 12 chefs, plus 110 outstanding wine producers hand-selected by Wine Spectator, "A Taste of Spain" is expected to be one of the largest Spanish wine-and-food events ever held outside of Spain.

In selecting Spain as its "country of honor" this year, Vinexpo, one of the world's most prominent exhibitions for wine and spirits, sought to call attention to Spain's dynamic, ever-evolving wine-and-food culture. "Many amazing Spanish wines remain unknown to the rest of the world, so the 'Taste of Spain' at Vinexpo gives us an opportunity to show these wines to the people of Bordeaux and beyond," Andrés said. "Each region has its own local specialties, and the wines that they make there are perfect complements—if you are in Galicia, you eat seafood and drink Albariño; if you are in the south, you eat jamón and drink Sherry; if you are in Basque country, you drink Txakolina and eat pintxos. These pairings are absolutely beautiful."

The invitation-only tasting will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Palais de la Bourse in Bordeaux. For more information about Vinexpo and "A Taste of Spain," visit VinexpoBordeaux.com/en.
