Sarah Michelle Gellar knows what you did last summer … and she’s here to make sure you don't have to do it without a refreshing glass of white wine this year. The legendary vampire slayer, cruel intender, grudge survivor and spooky wine ambassador—who also very much enjoys normal human pleasures like drinking wine on the beach with friends over a game of Rummikub—is now partnering with Yellow Tail to promote Pure Bright, a trio of Australian white wines starring Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc and priced at $7 per bottle.
Pure Bright is also joining the growing category of “better for you” wines: The Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio are each 80 calories per glass and just 8.5 percent alcohol, while the Chardonnay is 85 calories and 9.6 percent ABV. "Until now, lower calorie wines have been seen as light on flavor. That was a trade-off we weren't willing to make," said John Casella, managing director of Yellow Tail parent company Casella Family Brands, in a statement issued by the brand. "We took the opposite approach, ensuring great taste and then working our way backward to deliver on making it lighter."
Gellar fell in love with Australia’s white wines while filming Down Under. "I think for me it was more about the experience of being able to document a time and place with taste," Gellar told Wine Spectator. "You learn a lot about a culture, a city and a country based on what they drink. … [The Pure Bright lineup has] a very specific flavor profile. Yellow Tail kept the essence that makes a wine beautiful."
