What a difference a year has made. When Wine Spectator's Tim Fish first tasted the 2008 vintage for California Zinfandel more than a year ago, he thought this challenging vintage would keep all but the top producers from achieving outstanding results. The wines were clearly not in the same league as the rock-star 2007s, which at the time represented the category's best performance ever. Yes, the '08 Zins were full-bodied and ripe, but the wines seemed thin in the middle. Turns out, they were late-bloomers.
