When it comes to Midwestern dining, Milwaukee’s scene is one of the most underrated and rewarding in the north country. Story Hill BKC is a combination wine shop and restaurant offering a quaint and cozy hangout for shareable plates and memorable bottles. Chef Joe Muench’s menu is packed with creative dishes like tomato jam flatbread, an exciting local cheese plate, crispy cast-iron chicken, and country spare ribs with yellow peas, sour cabbage, whipped potatoes and pork jus, featuring locally-sourced ingredients whenever possible. The value-minded list, engineered by wine director Jason Kerstein, has earned an Award of Excellence since 2015 and offers 380 selections with strengths in California, France and Italy, two dozen of which are available by the glass. Those who prefer beer will find over 20 on tap, including several local brews from Wisconsin and its neighboring states.
