Inside the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn., Caputo Trattoria is a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence winner that serves as an Italian-inspired getaway for guests. Owned by Craveable Hospitality Group, which also includes the casino’s Restaurant Award–winning David Burke Prime Steakhouse, the restaurant draws on dishes you’d find if dining around Italy’s coastal regions, matched by a strong wine list. Led by the group’s executive chef, Gary LaMothe, the menu features house-made pasta dishes and classics like chicken parmesan. There are also some New England specialties like oysters on the half-shell, tying the cuisine to Caputo’s home base.
The wine list is managed by beverage director Chad Tipton and boasts 750 selections. Californian wines are the star, with an extensive selection—including substantial verticals—from producers such as Diamond Creek, Dominus Estate and Bond. Top wines from Burgundy and Bordeaux make a notable appearance as well, with rare by-the-glass pours from Château Potensac and Château Lynch-Bages. Bottlings from Northern Italy’s Piedmont region help round out the list. A page of half-bottles covers a range of countries, and large-format wines are available as well, so guests can opt for whatever kind of wine experience they’re seeking that evening. The restaurant is currently open for indoor dining at limited capacity, in compliance with local pandemic restrictions.
