Several recent vintages showcase the diverse personalities of the region’s many wines

The current releases of Barolo hail mainly from the 2006 vintage, a year that witnessed cool weather and a later-than-average harvest compared with those of the past decade. These structured wines possess a sense of austerity at this stage in their evolution. The best also exhibit ripe fruit, spice and mineral flavors. Wine Spectator senior editor Bruce sanderson explains.
