Visitors to Bordeaux are as likely to see hard hats and cranes as vines and châteaus these days. New vineyard practices, new vinification techniques and new money have fueled a construction revolution in the cellars of France's premier region. Some of the new chais hide striking, modern interiors inside classic 19th-century exteriors. But others, perhaps inspired by ambitious winery designs in Spain and South America, throw tradition out the window to create a 21st-century vision of a château.
