Few stages offer a bigger soap box than the Super Bowl halftime show, so Unfiltered readers may have been surprised when the very-not-shy-about-her-political-beliefs superstar Lady Gaga failed to cause the faintest whiff of controversy during her performance. Last night, we wondered if she'd lost her edge. This morning, we're wondering if she is a marketing genius: Just as she took the world's biggest stage (where Yellow Tail had just aired the first wine advertisement in decades), word leaked, via gossip queen TMZ, that Gaga plans to release her own line of Grigio Girls wines, inspired by the song of the same name from Gaga’s 2016 album, Joanne. The entertainment website reports that the song "Grigio Girls" was inspired by a friend’s battle with cancer, and the bottles of wine Gaga and her friends would share to drown their sorrows: “All the Pinot, Pinot Grigio girls, pour your heart out, watch your blues turn gold. All the Pinot, Pinot Grigio girls, keep it real cold, 'cause it's a fired-up world."

Lady Gaga’s parents, Joseph and Cynthia Germanotta, own an Italian restaurant in New York named Joanne Trattoria, and Lady Gaga is no stranger to the wine scene. In 2010, Unfiltered predicted the star would don a wine-themed costume complete with a cork hat, and in 2011 she did just that in a sketch on Saturday Night Live—we still remember the lyrics, “She hit the floor! Too much Merlot, low, low, low …”—with host Justin Timberlake (dressed as a beer bottle) and cast member Kristen Wiig (dressed as a tea bag). A year later, senior editor Tim Fish blogged about Gaga’s Sonoma wine country vacation, which fueled speculation that she might purchase a home or vineyard there. Obviously, Unfiltered will keep our readers up to date on all the latest Gaga Grigio news as it pops.

Patriots Celebrate Super Bowl Victory with Fine Cigars, California "Champagne"

Pats Owner Robert Kraft hands out Padrón 1964 Anniversary cigars.

In case you missed it, the New England Patriots pulled off a rather remarkable second-half comeback last night, winning Super Bowl LI in overtime. Of course, all Unfiltered really wanted to know was how the winners would be celebrating. Details of the "official" celebration still aren't out (and knowing the secrecy of the Patriots organization, may never be), but we can report that team owner Robert Kraft joined the players in the locker room after the game to hand out some very fine Nicaraguan cigars. According to our esteemed colleagues at Wine Spectator sister publication Cigar Aficionado, Kraft was handing out Padrón 1964 Anniversary Maduro cigars, which are priced at about $300 to $400 a box. They're quite the splurge compared with the victory bubbles that defensive end Chris Long was popping. Chris, the son of Fox Sports studio analyst and Super Bowl XVIII champion Howie Long, broke out some bottles of André California "Champagne" for his teammates. “I got them from Walgreens,” Chris told USA Today.
