Dear Dr. Vinny,
What is the correct pronunciation for the winery named Meiomi?
—Eddie, Elmhurst, Ill.
Meiomi is pronounced may-OH-mee. For those not familiar with the brand, it’s a bit of a phenomenon, a high-quality, $22 California Pinot Noir with a large production—there are 550,000 cases of the 2014.
Meiomi was founded by Joe Wagner, whose family is behind some very popular brands, including Caymus and Conundrum. The brand was sold earlier this year for $315 million, which raised a lot of eyebrows because the transaction didn’t include any vineyards.
