The first taste of a great Pinot Noir can turn a wine lover into a Pinot Noir fanatic. For me, it was a then-25-year-old Burgundy—Richebourg 1966 from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. The bouquet was sensational, complex and fleeting, with sweet fruit, rich earth, truffle and decadent notes of fading flowers and autumn leaves.
