Champagne Roederer Buys Stake in Wine Company in Provence

Domaines Ott makes wines at three estates in the Côtes de Provence and Bandol appellations.

Champagne Louis Roederer has expanded its wine portfolio, acquiring a two-thirds interest in Domaines Ott, a family-owned group of wineries in the Provence region of France. The purchase price was not disclosed.

"This investment fits very well with our wine estates, complementing the different regions, terroirs and vines," said Frédéric Rouzaud, managing director of Louis Roederer. Roederer currently owns Champagne Deutz; Château de Pez and Château Haut-Beauséjour in Bordeaux; négociants Delas Frères in the Rhône Valley; Duas Quintas and the Port house Ramos-Pinto in Portugal's Douro Valley; and Roederer Estate, a sparkling-wine producer in California's Anderson Valley.

Domaines Ott makes whites, reds and rosés at its three estates: Clos Mireille and Château de Selle in Côtes de Provence and Château Romassan in Bandol. The Ott family will retain the remaining interest in the company.

The partnership will work to improve the estates' vineyards, reducing chemical treatments to focus on the individual site characteristics, said Rouzaud. Roederer also brings its extensive global distribution network to the investment.
