Café Britt, Pioneer Roaster at Origin

If you've ever visited Costa Rica, you probably know about Café Britt, the high-end coffee. What you may not know is that the company has established operations in 10 countries with plans to expand to others. It is truly amazing what Café Britt, a pioneer in roasting coffee at origin, has accomplished since founder Steve Aronson began roasting small batches in a rented garage in 1985. A Bronx native who moved to Costa Rica in 1976, Aronson ran a green coffee bean export business. It struck him as crazy that it was impossible to drink decent coffee in Costa Rica itself. Wine Spectator's Mark Pendergrast explains.
