By 2007, Steven Kent Mirassou Jr. was charting a course toward making the finest expression of Bordeaux-style wine possible in California's oft-overlooked Livermore Valley. With that vintage, he launched a Cabernet-dominated blend called Lineage. Wine Spectator's lead California taster, James Laube, lauded it as "one of the best wines ever from Livermore Valley," at 91 points. As Mirassou has fine-tuned his blend, it's only gotten better. But the Mirassou story begins 160 years earlier. Ben O'Donnell reports.
