A Golden Age for German Rieslings

2011 proves another winner, with wines showing fruit and flesh
From the May 31, 2013, issue

As the Rhine River courses through western Germany on its way to the North Sea, it flows by some of Europe's most remarkable wine districts. Here, in the Pfalz, Rheinhessen, Nahe, Rheingau and Mosel regions, dizzyingly steep vineyards that march up from the banks of the Rhine and its tributaries produce crystalline and fresh-tasting whites from Germany's most successful grape, Riesling. The latest vintage on the market from these districts is 2011, and it continues a winning streak of quality that extends back to the turn of the century. Wine Spectator's Kim Marcus explains.
