Dear Dr. Vinny,

I have a wine fridge and just moved it to a different room in the house that has a lot more sunlight. Is there any way to block the sunlight coming into the fridge—maybe putting something on the glass door?

—Franciscus, Melbourne, Australia

Dear Franciscus,

I don’t know exactly what kind of wine refrigerator you have, but many models come with UV-filtered and/or double-paned glass doors that help to both insulate the wine and protect it from UV rays, which can cause premature aging.

If you don’t already have UV protection, you could look into getting a film to adhere to the glass—kind of like getting sunglasses for your wine fridge. It could be clear or tinted, or you can even get it with patterns and textures if you’d like to spruce it up even further.
