Dear Dr. Vinny,
Are there any health benefits in Sangria wine I buy in a jug? I know it’s cheap but it’s what I can afford.
—Mary, Michigan
Dear Mary,
Maybe. There’s a lot of research still being done on the health benefits of wine, but most doctors seem to agree that wine is part of a healthy lifestyle.
But I walked by some of the jug Sangria wines in the grocery store the other day, and I noticed that some say they are made from grape juice "with natural flavors." If you like the flavor of Sangria, instead of wondering what they mean by "natural flavors," you could make your own sangria by mixing a fruity jug wine with sliced citrus and club soda (and a splash of brandy if you have it handy).
