Sir Peter Michael - 2014

Sir Peter Michael, who made his fortune in high-tech before pursuing a dream to build a world-class winery in California, is the recipient of Wine Spectator's Distinguished Service Award for 2014. He made a name for himself in a remote corner of Sonoma County with elegant, site-specific Cabernet, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay sourced from a host of distinctive vineyards and terroirs. British by birth, he has spent decades matching European wine traditions with the exuberance and vitality of California.
