It’s been exciting to watch downtown Napa transform its sleepy, small-town charms into a collection of solid new restaurants and wine bars. Suddenly, downtown Napa has a nightlife!
1313 Main St. is a new wine bar that opened after our June 15, 2011 cover story about downtown Napa came out, but it epitomizes the renaissance perfectly. Owner Al Jabarin has been selling wine both online and at a Napa retail shop for a long time, and he’s created a wine bar that is the right mix of sophisticated, modern, urban and hip. The space is divided into several different lounge areas, with plenty of corner spots to have a comfortable conversation.
That’s exactly what I did the other night after dinner—grabbed a corner spot with a friend and ordered a bubbly, the Nicolas Feuillatte Brut Champagne NV ($7 for a half glass). It was balanced between a creamy mouthfeel and a refreshing acidity, with plenty of citrus and mineral flavors. I rated it 89 points, non-blind.
More than 1,000 bottles are for sale at 1313 Main, along with a rotating selection of wines by the glass and a small plate selection. I was really impressed with the service and the knowledge of the staff, and happy there’s another new hangout in Napa with a terrific wine list.
