Zachys, the wine merchant and auctioneer based in Scarsdale, N.Y., announced that it has teamed up with Wally's Wine & Spirits, one of the top retailers in Los Angeles, to conduct live wine auctions there. The new venture will be called Zachys with Wally's.
"Initially, we'll hold two auctions a year, with the first sale scheduled in L.A. on May 7 and 8, 2004," said Jeff Zacharia, president of Zachys wine auctions. "We are already soliciting consignments, and Wally's is actively involved in seeking sellers and buyers. Los Angeles is a terrific market for auctions and holds enormous potential."
Three other auction houses currently hold wine sales in Los Angeles: Acker Merrall & Condit, Christie's and Bonhams & Butterfields, which simulcasts their San Francisco sales to a live audience.
