California's highly regarded Viader Vineyards, in Napa Valley's Howell Mountain appellation, recently hired Charles Hendricks as its full-time winemaker.

Hendricks, 40, makes wine for a number of Cabernet-focused producers in Napa Valley, including Barnett Vineyards on Spring Mountain, Paoletti Vineyards in Calistoga and Stags Leap Districts Regusci Winery and Steltzner Vineyards. He will stay on with Barnett while working at Viader.

Owned by Argentine-born Delia Viader (pronounced VEE-uh-dare), Viader Vineyards produces about 4,000 cases of a Cabernet Sauvignon-Cabernet Franc blend from grapes grown on the winery's 23 acres. Previously the Viader wines were made at Rombauer Vineyards; the 1999 vintage will be the first produced entirely at Viader's new winemaking facility.

Amy Aiken, wife of Beaulieu Vineyard winemaker Joel Aiken, was hired early this year as Viader's winemaker, but she left to concentrate on raising her newborn son.
