When it comes to the Tempranillo-based reds from Rioja , it's hard to choose between 2004 (which garners a 92-point rating for the vintage as a whole) and 2001 (93 points). The younger vintage shows bold, ripe fruit flavors, but has excellent balance, with lively acidity.
