A challenge for vintners in California, white Rhône varietals are beginning to emerge from the shadows

Rhône grapes such as Viognier, Roussanne and Marsanne may live in Chardonnay's shadow in California, but they certainly add some much needed spice to our white wine diet here in the States. Viognier is the most widely planted Rhône white in California, and it is capable of producing both delicate, fragrant wines and rich, vibrant wines with intense floral, apricot and peach aromas.
