Excellent summer reds from the Loire's Chinon appellation, along with a few other surprises

As with most of Europe, the 2005 harvest was superb in the Loire Valley. The reds, Cabernet Franc in particular, are ripe and structured with terrific minerality. Even the normally light-bodied Gamay takes on cru Beaujolais-like character in '05.
