The 2003 vintage in Germany was an exceptional year. No crisp, light kabinetts these; the '03s are performance enhanced, pumped up to the point where even QbAs were picked at auslese ripeness. "We did a lot of research about 2003, going back to the early 1800s to find a year with the amount of sun we experienced in '03," explained Michael Prinz zu Salm-Salm, proprietor of Weingut Prinz zu Salm-Dalberg in Nahe and president of Germany's elite grower association Verband Deutscher Prädikats - und Qualitätsweinguter.
