Spotlight On: Château Gruaud-Larose 1990

This Bordeaux estate always represents good value and can even be a great investment in strong vintages. The 1990 scored 92 points upon release, when it cost $35, and has been trading in the $115 to $150 range recently. Two case lots from the Aulden Cellars-Sotheby's sale on Nov. 18, 2006, were purchased at an average bottle price of $169, an indication that this wine is headed even higher.

This data comes from the Wine Spectator Auction Index, a composite of average prices for wines sold at commercial auctions. The prices are indexed to 100 beginning in the fourth quarter of 1995. This chart plots the index value of Gruaud-Larose 1990 against the index value for all Gruaud-Larose vintages.
