Salad and Wine

When it's too hot to turn on the oven and the thought of slaving over a stove is about as attractive as bare feet on hot macadam, it's time to bust out the big salad bowl and tongs. Beat the summer heat and take advantage of the season's vegetables by tossing up a crisp, fresh salad and pairing it with a refreshing cool glass of white wine.

For the green salads of summer, the best wine matches are white wines, such as crisp Riesling or Sauvignon Blanc. But if you've got a hankering for red wine with your veggies, don't let us stifle your creativity -- get out the dressing and start experimenting. We suggest you stick with, fruitier red wines, such as Beaujolais or Dolcetto. Below, we have listed some of editor at large Harvey Steiman's salad recipes and suggested wine matches.
