New Zealand Winery's Bottlings Found to Be Inconsistent

New Zealand's Lintz Estate has agreed to change its bottling and blending procedures after the Wine Institute of New Zealand found marked differences between bottles of the same wine. Differences came to light after the Martinborough-based winery, at the southern tip of the North Island, won a trophy at the 1998 Air New Zealand Wine Awards for its Lintz Shiraz 1997.

Though there was no technical breach of the awards regulations, the winery returned the trophy in order "to keep faith with the public," said John Falloon, winery spokesman. The Wine Institute is now reviewing its awards regulations.
