New Wines, New Faces: Raats Family

Family winemaker focuses on Loire varieties, but gives them a uniquely South African sense of style

Who: Raats Family Wines is owned by Bruwer Raats, who worked at South Africa's Delaire from 1997 to 2002 and Zorgvliet from 2002 to 2005 before heading out on his own. Now Raats, 36, owns just less than 10 acres of vines in the Polkadraai Hills, south of Stellenbosch, and has grower contracts for 50 more, from which he produces 7,000 cases per year.
