New Wines, New Faces: K Vintners Rocks With Washington Syrah
A chance meeting with Cayuse winemaker Christophe Baron led Charles Smith to start his own winery.
Charles Smith managed rock bands in Europe for 11 years, and he looks the part, wearing an old T-shirt with a death's-head on it, his frizzy hair sticking out in several directions. Yet living in Denmark, where he developed a taste for fine wine, eventually led him to a new life in a farmhouse just east of Walla Walla, Washington.
