The South African winery started with help from an Italian leader, but found its footing with the help of a Bordeaux icon

Who: Capaia is owned by Alexander von Essen, 59, a German-based importer who has represented South African wineries for more than 20 years. Working with him as winemaking consultant is Stephan von Neipperg , 49, owner of a half dozen Bordeaux châteaus, including Château Canon-La Gaffelière and La Mondotte.
