The Brooklyn-born Harrison founded Harrison Vineyards with his winemaker wife, Lindsey, in 1989. Previously he had run a successful international direct mail business, Cooper-Rand.
"We are devastated," said Jan Shrem, owner of Clos Pegase winery. "He was a close friend and a very talented person." Harrison was an artist, and had designed labels for Harrison Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. The wines were made from a vineyard in the Pritchard Hill area of eastern Napa Valley. Harrison was also involved in the Coalition for Free Trade, a group attempting to loosen restrictions on interstate shipping of wine.
In addition to his wife, Harrison is survived by a sister, Judi Kaufman; a son, Jeff; daughters Jill and Jeri; and three grandchildren.
