| 1. With your thumb back, slice off the onion top. Note: the sharper the knife, the fewer the tears. | ![]() |

| 4. Now cut from the top to bottm to make 1/2-inch strips. Make sure that the root stays intact. | |||

| 2. Divide the onion in two, cutting through the center of the root. | |||

| 5. Now you're ready to dice. Turn the root towards you and start at the top, opposite the root. | |||

| 3. Slice each half: Make 3-4 parallel cuts (1/2 wide) up to the root but not through it. | ![]() |

| 6. As you make 1/2-inch cuts, the onion separate cleanly, and your eyes should feel fine. | |||
