Health Q&A: Red vs. White Wine

Posted: February 7, 2007

Q: Which is better for you: red or white wine? I like red wines better. --Joann

A: While laboratory studies suggest that polyphenols in red wine provide greater health benefits, there are few epidemiological studies that compare red and white wine. The most important factor in conferring health benefits appears to be the amount of wine consumed. Many studies have shown that regular and moderate consumption (one to two glasses per day) is associated with the greatest amount of benefits, like better circulation and overall heart health. Therefore, you should choose a wine that you like.
