Just days after Southcorp Wines hired a new chief executive, Australia's largest wine producer announced that the president of its North American operations, Jose Fernandez, is resigning at the end of this month. He will be joining WineBuyer.com as president and chief operating officer.

Fernandez has managed Southcorp's North American business for the past eight years, during which annual sales of its Lindemans and Penfolds brands have grown more than tenfold to more than 1.8 million cases.

Winebuyer.com is a business-to-business Web site for the wine industry. The company links restaurants, hotels, retailers and other purchasers of alcoholic beverages with wholesalers, wineries and other sellers, providing automated systems for product sourcing, ordering, processing and distribution.

Fernandez has agreed to remain as an advisor to Southcorp Wines, possibly in the area of e-business. David Combe, senior vice president international of Southcorp Wines, will take over as acting president while a search is conducted for Fernandez's replacement.
