Collecting Q&A: What is my 1980 Ducru-Beaucaillou worth?

Q: I have a bottle of 1980 Ducru-Beaucaillou and would like to sell it if the price is right. What do you suggest I do?

A: Most auction houses do not accept consignments worth less than $5,000. According to the Wine Spectator Auction Index for the third quarter of 2007, your 1980 Ducru-Beaucaillou is worth $45. 1980 was a light vintage and is probably past peak. Nevertheless, you might try one of the established online wine auctioneers like Winebid.com or Winecommune.com (the latter functions more or less like eBay.com and is probably your best bet) -- or you could drink it.
