Q: Is it recommended to turn wine bottles periodically? If so, how often and how far (quarter or half turn)?
A: The turning of bottles (known as "riddling") is a process used in Champagne to collect the sediment generated by the secondary fermentation into the neck of the wine bottle prior to disgorging. But for still wines, you want any sediment to collect in a single spot as the wine ages, for cleaner decanting. So I recommend not turning the bottles when they're in your cellar.
