Can you believe it's been 10 years?
Wine Spectator Online originally launched in October 1996. That was early in the first Internet boom. There weren't many magazines on the Web back then--and there were very few sites devoted to wine.
We didn't have any experience. We didn't know what to expect. We only knew that we wanted Wine Spectator to have as big a role in this new world as we already had in the "old media."
We've gone through a lot of changes since then. But our goal has always been to deliver authoritative wine ratings, expert commentary and the latest news about the world of wine. We hold to the same high standards on the Web as we do in print: to be fair, to be accurate, to state our views without fear or favor.
Now we have launched a new and improved version of Wine Spectator Online. We have a sophisticated new design, greatly improved functionality and a slew of new features. We believe you'll now find it easier to navigate through the site and find the specific information you're looking for. We have also redesigned our wine search, in order to make it more useful as you research the wines you own or are planning to buy or sell.
I hope you'll explore the site and get to know its breadth and depth. But this is only the beginning: We plan to introduce many more great new features in the near future.
In order to introduce ourselves to as many wine lovers as possible, we're making the entire site free to all users for two weeks, from Oct. 16-31.
After that, only subscribers will have access to many of our most desirable features, such as our unmatched database of wine reviews (more than 164,000 ratings, and counting), our lively and provocative Editors' Blogs and advance ratings of the hottest wines.
If you love wine, we think you'll find plenty to like on our site. Welcome and enjoy.
