After dipping our toes into the Pacific, we drove back inland to Ridge Lytton Springs West vineyards in Dry Creek Valley, where we met up with John Clendenen, vice president of the Sonoma County Grape Growers Association and owner, along with his wife, of a vineyard management company, and Fred Peterson, manager of this vineyard and the maker of the Peterson Bradford Mountain Zin we enjoyed during the visit. This is a view of Dry Creek Valley looking north toward Bradford Mountain and Preston Vineyards, with a glimpse of Gallo's benchland vineyards in the upper right hand corner. The warmer, northern end of Dry Creek Valley is renowned for intense Zinfandels and Petite Sirah, as well as Syrah and Sangiovese, newer arrivals from the Rhone Valley and Italy, respectively. |
